LG makes refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers and cooking appliances for the U.S. market under the LG and LG Studio names. Its refrigerators and laundry machines use LG-built inverter compressors and direct-drive motors, and most models show error codes on a front display.
This page covers the problems LG owners report most, what each points to, where the model and serial label is, how to get the manual and error codes, how the warranty is handled, and when an independent repair business makes sense. It is not affiliated with LG.
Callbook is not affiliated with, authorized by or endorsed by LG. This page is written for owners of its products; warranty service may need to go through the maker.
What people own
- French door, side-by-side and bottom-freezer refrigerators, including InstaView door-in-door models.
- Front-load and top-load washers, matching electric and gas dryers, and WashTower stacked units.
- Dishwashers with QuadWash and TrueSteam options.
- Electric, gas and induction ranges, wall ovens and cooktops.
- Over-the-range microwaves.
- LG Studio built-in and counter-depth appliances.
Common problems and what they usually point to
Refrigerator stops cooling while the lights and display still work
Usually the compressor or the sealed system, a failed evaporator fan, or a defrost problem that has iced over the evaporator. A technician checks whether the compressor runs and whether the evaporator frosts before quoting a sealed-system repair.
Ice maker slow or not producing
Low water pressure, a clogged filter, a stuck fill valve or a failed ice maker module. On models with a door-mounted ice maker, warm air leaking into the ice compartment causes frost that stops the mechanism.
Washer shows OE, UE or LE
OE is a drain problem: usually the drain pump filter, a kinked hose or the pump. UE is an unbalanced load or a washer that is not level. LE relates to the motor and can be a loose or overloaded drum, a wiring connection or the motor sensor.
Dryer not heating or taking two cycles
On an electric dryer, a heating element, thermal fuse or thermistor; on a gas dryer, an igniter or gas valve coil. Long dry times with heat present almost always mean a restricted vent or a full lint filter housing.
Range or oven not heating or showing F codes
An oven that will not come up to temperature usually needs a bake element, an igniter or a temperature sensor. F codes on the display point to a sensor, door lock or control-board fault that needs the code list for the model.
Model numbers, manuals and warranty
- LG says the model and serial label is inside a refrigerator on the right-hand side of the liner (left side on newer models), on a washer or dryer around the drum opening behind the door or on the rear panel, on the right side of a dishwasher door, and on the left side of a range door or drawer frame.
- Manuals and documents are under Product Help on the LG USA support site. Search by model number; the owner's manual includes the error-code table for that model.
- A new LG appliance carries a limited warranty from the date of purchase, and some components (for example the compressor on refrigerators or the motor on washers) carry longer parts-only coverage on many models. The exact terms are on the warranty page of your manual. Warranty service is arranged by LG through its own technicians or authorized servicers; an independent repair inside the warranty period is usually not reimbursed.
- LG lists phone support at 1-800-243-0000, a text line, 24/7 chat and a contact page. Repairs can be requested and tracked online through the Repair Service page.
When a local repair business is the right call
- The appliance is past the maker's warranty and you want a local technician and a quote rather than a replacement.
- A refrigerator has lost cooling and the problem is the compressor or the sealed system. This requires EPA-certified refrigerant handling, whether or not the compressor is still under a parts warranty.
- A gas range or gas dryer needs igniter, valve or gas-line work.
- The repair involves a main control board, inverter board or display that must be ordered for the exact model.
Questions people ask
My LG refrigerator compressor has a longer parts warranty. Who pays for the labor?
Where a parts-only warranty applies, LG supplies the part and the labor is billed separately unless the appliance is still inside the full warranty. Confirm the terms with LG before scheduling anyone.
Can an independent technician work on an LG inverter compressor?
Yes, if they are EPA-certified for refrigerant and equipped for sealed-system work. Not every repair business does sealed systems, so ask before booking.
What does the OE code on my LG washer mean?
A drain error. The most common cause is a clogged drain pump filter, behind a small door at the bottom front of most front-load models, which the owner can clean. If the filter is clean and the hose is not kinked, the pump is the likely cause.
Where is the error-code list for my model?
In the owner's manual on LG's support site and in the Help Library articles for your product. Codes vary between models, so use the manual for your exact model number.
