Frigidaire Appliance Repair: Common Problems and Support

What Frigidaire refrigerator, freezer, range, dishwasher, washer and dryer owners report most, what each points to, where the model tag is and when to call.

Frigidaire is an Electrolux brand and one of the most common names in U.S. kitchens, especially on refrigerators, freezers and ranges sold with new homes and apartments. The line runs from basic top-freezer refrigerators to Frigidaire Gallery and Professional models with more features.

This page covers the problems Frigidaire owners report most, what each points to, where the model tag is, how to get the manual, how the warranty works, and when an independent repair business makes sense. It is not affiliated with Frigidaire or Electrolux.

Callbook is not affiliated with, authorized by or endorsed by Frigidaire. This page is written for owners of its products; warranty service may need to go through the maker.

What people own

  • Top-freezer, side-by-side and French door refrigerators, plus Gallery and Professional lines.
  • Upright and chest freezers.
  • Freestanding electric, gas and induction ranges, and wall ovens.
  • Dishwashers with front or top controls.
  • Top-load and front-load washers and matching dryers.
  • Window air conditioners, dehumidifiers and over-the-range microwaves.

Common problems and what they usually point to

Refrigerator too warm or freezer frosting up

A defrost system fault (heater, thermostat or control board) that has let frost block the evaporator, a failed evaporator fan, dirty condenser coils or a torn door gasket. If the compressor runs constantly and nothing cools, the sealed system is the next suspect.

Ice maker not making ice

A water filter that is overdue, a frozen fill tube, a failed water inlet valve or a failed ice maker module. On side-by-side models, an ice chute door that does not close lets warm air into the bin and causes clumping.

Oven not heating or showing an F code

Frigidaire ovens show F codes that most often point to the oven temperature probe, a door lock on self-cleaning models, a relay on the control board or the keypad. A bake element that has visibly burned is a straightforward replacement; an igniter on a gas oven that glows but does not light is a common wear part.

Dishwasher not draining or not cleaning

Standing water points to a clogged filter, a blocked drain hose or air gap, or the drain pump. Poor cleaning usually comes from a blocked spray arm, a clogged filter or low water temperature.

Dryer not heating

A restricted vent first. Then a heating element, high-limit thermostat or thermal fuse on an electric dryer, or an igniter and gas valve coils on a gas dryer.

Model numbers, manuals and warranty

  • The model and serial tag is a sticker inside the appliance: on a refrigerator on an inside wall or ceiling of the fresh-food section; on a freezer inside the door or on the back; on a range behind the oven door, under the lift-up cooktop or inside the storage drawer; on a dishwasher on the edge of the door; on a washer or dryer around the door opening or on the back panel.
  • Frigidaire publishes owner's manuals on its owner support site, searchable by model number. The owner's manual includes the troubleshooting section and error-code table for that model.
  • A new Frigidaire appliance carries a limited warranty from the date of purchase; the length and terms are on the warranty page of the manual. Warranty repairs are arranged by Frigidaire through its authorized service network; an independent repair in the warranty period is usually not reimbursed.
  • Register the appliance on the owner support site after purchase so proof of purchase is on file for a later claim.
  • Support contact options are listed on the Frigidaire owner support site. Have the model and serial number ready. Frigidaire and Electrolux appliances share parts and service procedures.

When a local repair business is the right call

  • The appliance is out of its warranty and you want a local technician and a quote rather than factory service or a replacement.
  • A refrigerator or freezer needs sealed-system work (compressor, evaporator, refrigerant leak), which requires EPA-certified refrigerant handling.
  • A gas range or gas dryer needs igniter, valve or gas-line work.
  • A washer needs tub bearings, a drum or a motor, which means taking the cabinet apart.
  • The fix is a control board, relay board or keypad that has to be ordered for the exact model.

Questions people ask

My Frigidaire freezer is frosting over. Is that a repair?

Light frost in a manual-defrost freezer is normal. Heavy frost in a frost-free unit means the defrost system has stopped or a door is not sealing. Check the gasket first; after that, it is a defrost heater, thermostat or control-board repair.

Can an independent technician get Frigidaire parts?

Yes. Frigidaire and Electrolux parts are stocked by appliance parts distributors, and many parts are shared across both brands, so common repairs rarely wait on parts.

What does an F code on my Frigidaire oven mean?

The control has detected a fault. The most common causes are the oven temperature probe, the door lock circuit on self-cleaning models or the control board. The code table for your model is in the owner's manual.

Is my Frigidaire appliance under recall?

Search the model number on the CPSC recalls list or recalls.gov. Recalls are specific to model and serial ranges, so a match on the brand alone does not mean your unit is affected.
